OUR HISTORY
Castlerea Golf Club was founded on 9th September 1905. The course was originally located on the Ballymoe Road at Harristown. It moved to its present location at Clonalis in 1907. Today, the club continues to develop the course and grounds, with additional lands purchased as recently as 2007. This new development is in close proximity to the famous Clonalis House, the historic seat of the O’Conor Don family.
CASTLEREA MEMBERS
Over the years Castlerea Golf Club has produced many fine and successful golfers. Bertie Briscoe was a member when winning the West of Ireland in 1928 and 1931. Miss Audrey O’Donoghue, whose father was a founder member of the club, represented Ireland from 1948 to 1953 and subsequently became Irish team captain. Rupert de Lacy Staunton was the winner of the South of Ireland in 1965 and 1972. He played for Ireland from 1963 to 1973 during which time Ireland won the European Championship for the first time. Rupert also captained the Irish team for a number of years and was a Walker Cup selector. His father Maurice was president of the GUI in 1974.
We deeply appreciate the families who generously sponsor competitions each year in memory of their dearly departed loved ones.

CAPTAINS' ADDRESS
A message from Eugene and Dympna
Fellow members of Castlerea Golf Club, we are delighted and honoured to be Captains of Castlerea Golf Club for 2024. We appreciate all the support and good wishes you have given to each of us for the coming year.
In Castlerea Golf Club we have two great assets, our terrific golf course and our loyal members. We also welcome visitors and societies and encourage members to recommend us to their work colleagues and friends and, indeed, to take every opportunity to promote our club.
Castlerea Golf Club continues its policy of consistently improving the course. We are particularly delighted that we now have our superb course in full operation and golfers will now have the opportunity to play on our new developed holes designed by Ken Kearney and executed to perfection by DAR Golf contractors.
We will support the next generation of golfers both juniors and beginners and ensure their place in the club.
We would also like to wish all our club teams and selectors the very best of luck for 2024.
Castlerea Golf club relies heavily on the voluntary spirit of our members to join committees and sub committees. We are fortunate to have such loyal dedicated members who willingly give of their time and who keep the club running smoothly throughout the year.
We are delighted to say that we have a full golfing calendar for both men and women for 2024. We would also like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of our sponsors for your generosity and long and continued support. You are a key ingredient in enabling us to run our golfing season successfully.
We look forward to representing our great club and welcoming both members and guests on the fairways and in the clubhouse throughout 2024.
Yours in Golf
